Tenerife will solve the traffic collapse in Las Chafiras with a new interchange.
A new roundabout is planned to be built in Tenerife near the Las Chafiras industrial estate in 2026-2027 to solve the problem of long-standing traffic jams.
On Tenerife, they will finally address the problematic section of road – the TF-65 intersection near the Las Chafiras industrial zone. A new roundabout will be built there, near the La Maestra parking lot and opposite the Alegría shopping center and gas station.
The authorities plan to announce a tender for the project in 2026 and carry out the work in 2026-2027. This is necessary to coordinate everything with other important road projects in the area.
Thanks to the new interchange and a direct lane to the airport, they hope to solve the traffic jams that have plagued this place for years. It is currently a real "bottleneck" for transport in the south of the island.
2.17 million euros have been allocated for the project, and the work is scheduled to be completed in eight months. This should help reduce congestion, increase road capacity and make traffic safer. According to the road service, traffic jams in this area "significantly increase travel time and negatively affect the quality of road service."
Las Chafiras is one of the busiest places not only in Tenerife, but also in all of Spain. Up to 100,000 cars pass through here every day. In recent years, the situation has worsened due to construction work.
Due to daily traffic jams, local residents and tourists constantly complain. They joke that the chaos on the roads is a chronic problem that no one can solve.
To avoid a complete transport collapse during construction, the authorities urgently built a temporary Castillo roundabout – a new access road to Amarilla Golf and Los Abrigos. According to Dámaso Arteaga, the councilor for road management, this is "an important work that has streamlined traffic on the TF-1 and to the industrial zone."
The project is currently awaiting the оформлення of the necessary land documents. The authorities have already announced the urgent occupation of the necessary plots. In total, the work will affect areas of 3013 m².
The construction of the new Las Chafiras roundabout is closely related to the construction of the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda interchange and the third lane of the TF-1.
The project is already being changed to take into account the new situation in the area after the construction of the third lane, new exits and the roundabout of the access road to Las Chafiras.
