Tenerife: New fire safety regulations - where do the restrictions apply?

New fire safety regulations will be introduced in Tenerife from August 16, with different levels of restrictions depending on the region of the island.

New fire safety rules will be in effect in Tenerife from Saturday, August 16th, starting at 7 a.m. This depends on your specific location on the island, as the weather varies in different parts.

On the northern side of the island, where it is cooler and more humid, Level 2 rules will apply. This means the risk of fire is slightly lower there.

However, in the south, although it is not as hot, it is still dry, so stricter rules – Level 3 – remain in place.

Areas where Level 2 rules apply (more lenient):

  • Buenavista del Norte
  • Los Silos
  • El Tanque
  • Garachico
  • Icod de los Vinos
  • La Guancha
  • San Juan de la Rambla
  • Los Realejos
  • La Orotava
  • Santa Úrsula
  • La Victoria de Acentejo
  • La Matanza de Acentejo
  • El Sauzal

  • Tegueste
  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife
  • El Rosario

What is allowed in areas with Level 2 rules:

  1. Hunting without weapons and training.
  2. Hiking in the mountains, walking on trails and forest roads. It is possible to complete the entire PR TF 51 San José de Los Llanos - Punta de Teno trail.
  3. Driving on island roads.
  4. Riding bicycles or horses on forest roads (see TenerifeON map).
  5. Owners can access their land.
  6. Carrying out normal activities, unless in a fire risk zone.

What is prohibited in areas with Level 2 rules:

  1. Making fires: bonfires, barbecues, gas stoves, etc.
  2. Setting off fireworks.
  3. Using tools that can cause sparks.
  4. Logging.
  5. Driving on forest roads in cars for recreation (TenerifeON).
  6. Using recreational areas, campsites (TenerifeON).
  7. Holding sporting events and pilgrimages on forest roads.
  8. Hunting with weapons throughout the island.

In areas with Level 3 rules, EVERYTHING from the list above is prohibited, and the Chipeque and Chimage viewpoints are also closed.

The Cabildo of Tenerife asks everyone to be very careful throughout the island and not to do anything that could cause a fire (do not smoke in the forest, use generators, electricity, pyrotechnics, etc. with caution).
