The Honey Fair will take place in La Laguna this weekend, with tastings, workshops, and the opportunity to purchase unique honey from Tenerife, which has a protected geographical indication.

This weekend, La Laguna will host the Honey Fair, an annual event on the island where you can taste and buy a variety of high-quality honey from Tenerife, which has the protected geographical indication "Miel de Tenerife".

The fair will feature various honey stands, and a cooking workshop will be held in Plaza de La Concepción. The fair will be open on Saturday the 4th from 10:00 to 20:00, and on Sunday the 5th from 10:00 to 15:00.

The fair's program was announced at a press conference by Cristina Ledesma, Councilor for Rural Development of La Laguna, Valentín González, Executive Director of the Primary Sector and Animal Welfare of the Cabildo de Tenerife, and Pablo Pestano, President of the "Miel de Tenerife" organization and the Association of Beekeepers of Tenerife (Apiten).

Cristina Ledesma noted that thanks to the unique nature of the island, honey from Tenerife is a special product that is valued for its quality. She thanked the beekeepers for their work and for creating unique types of honey that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. She also expressed hope that the fair will help promote honey, spread knowledge about it, and support the development of beekeeping.

Valentín González said that this fair has already become a tradition for the island and the Canary Islands. He added that La Laguna will become the "honey capital" for this weekend. Behind every drop of honey is the work of many beekeepers. This fair is a great opportunity to show how diverse and high-quality our honey is, which has a protected geographical indication. It is also important to remind everyone about the importance of protecting bees.

Pablo Pestano emphasized that honey from Tenerife is special because it is collected from unique plants that grow only on this island, such as Teide broom, red tajinaste, or malpica. Tenerife has the largest variety of honey types in Europe, all with one protected geographical indication. No other organization can boast 14 varieties of honey in such a small area.

The fair will include a cooking workshop with master classes for children and adults, honey tastings, a dessert competition, and a combination of traditional beer with Tenerife honey. The photo contest and photo exhibition are also returning. In addition to the honey stands, other local products and handicrafts will be presented.

The President of Apiten invited everyone to visit the fair, participate in tastings, and try honey from Tenerife, as it is unique and unlike what is sold elsewhere. It is a real treasure for all residents of Tenerife. He also thanked the government institutions for their support of this event.

The fair is organized by the Association of Beekeepers of Tenerife, the "Miel de Tenerife" organization, and the Government of the Canary Islands, with the support of the Casa de la Miel del Cabildo de Tenerife and the La Laguna City Council, as well as the collaboration of the Villa de La Orotava City Council.
