Renovation of the sports center in Buenavista del Norte will resume after a three-year break.
After a three-year hiatus, the reconstruction of the San Francisco sports center in Buenavista del Norte is resuming, with plans to complete the work within five months and open it in early 2026.
In the town of Buenavista del Norte, work will resume at the San Francisco sports center! After a three-year hiatus, builders will return to complete the reconstruction.
Local authorities have allocated over 250,000 euros for this. The work is expected to last a maximum of 5 months. During this time, the court surface will be renovated and a fence will be installed around it. If all goes according to plan, the sports center will be ready to receive visitors again in early 2026.
The mayor of Buenavista, Eva García, said that the work was suspended back in 2022 because funding was not confirmed. Even earlier, in December 2021, the previous authorities announced the closure of the center for repairs. These works were part of a major plan to develop sports infrastructure in Tenerife.
According to the mayor, the previous team failed to secure funding, and now the project costs almost twice as much as it did in 2022. She added that the previous government failed to resolve the issue and did not seek new sources of funding.
The sports center will have two basketball courts, one for mini-football, and two tennis courts. The total area of the center is over 1,200 square meters. Currently, there are stones and a partially completed drainage system. The new surface will consist of several layers of special materials, on which markings for various sports will be applied.
In addition, access roads will be improved and a fence will be installed to prevent balls from flying onto the road. "Previously, balls were constantly falling onto the road, and this was a problem. This will no longer happen," assured Eva García.
Several improvements have also been added to the project: an electronic scoreboard, tennis equipment (racks and net), height-adjustable hurdles for athletics, and an outdoor table tennis table.
