Arona: Councilor accuses authorities of neglecting the elderly

Source: El Día

The councilor from Arona accused the city authorities of insufficient support for the elderly, in particular the failure to allocate promised funds and the lack of staff in centers for the elderly.

Pura Martín, a councilor from the "Más por Arona" party, says that the situation in elderly care centers in our city is terrible. There are not enough staff, so they cannot properly care for the elderly and conduct various useful activities for them.

She believes that the authorities, led by Fátima Lemes (from the PP party), as well as CC and VOX, are not paying attention to the problems of the elderly who need the most help.

Pura Martín adds that the city authorities have not yet allocated the promised money - 2,500 euros. This money helps centers and organizations to conduct various workshops, excursions and other activities for the elderly every year. She wrote about this on the social networks of the "Más por Arona" party. They demand that the money be allocated immediately, the number of employees be increased, and all activities that are so important for the elderly be restored. The councilor emphasizes that it is not only about money, but also about respect and dignified treatment of those who built our city.

Pura Martín criticizes the authorities for only taking pictures and boasting, while the elderly are left without support and entertainment. She believes that PP, CC and VOX have no sympathy for people and are mismanaging the city. The councilor from "Más por Arona" (a party created by former members of the PSOE) assures that they will not remain silent when they see such abuse of power.

It is recalled that Pura Martín stopped being responsible for the social sphere in the city of Arona on January 14. Then, the mayor, Fátima Lemes, dismissed four councilors from "Más por Arona" who had previously been in the city government. And two weeks later, another councilor, Ruth Martín (from the CC party), stated that social services were in a critical condition due to a shortage of staff who were constantly overloaded with work and did not have time to help everyone who needed it.
