A new bus lane costing 11.5 million euros is planned to be built in Tenerife between the HUC Hospital and Las Chumberas, which should improve the transport system and ecological mobility.

The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Tenerife has announced that it will soon present the project to extend the bus lane on the TF-5 highway in the northern direction. This concerns the section between the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) and Las Chumberas. 11.5 million euros will be invested in the project. It was developed by Proyma Consultores S.L.P. and has already been approved by the Technical Service of Roads and Mobility of the Cabildo.

The President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, emphasized that "this project is an important step towards improving the transport system in Tenerife. It will make public transport more convenient, improve people's lives, and promote environmentally friendly mobility."

The new lane will be 2.5 km long. 289 buses will run on it daily. To bypass the Guajara roundabout, a false tunnel will be built. There will also be new stops, exits, improvements to the drainage system, new signs, and landscaping around the road. The works will be carried out on the road to the right of the TF-5. This will allow the new section to be connected to the existing lane to the La Laguna junction. These 2.5 kilometers will be reserved for public transport only, which will be used by up to 289 buses daily, which is about 9.4 million passengers per year.

The project aims to make transport more convenient, accessible, and safe. In particular, a single-lane road will be built, designed for one-way traffic, in the areas of the Santiago Martín Pavilion and Las Chumberas. In some places, it will be shared with other vehicles to make the road more passable.

To make buses run faster and avoid traffic jams, a false tunnel will be built. It will allow buses to bypass the Guajara roundabout, which will significantly reduce travel time.

In addition, the project includes the construction of new exits, the restoration of damaged sections of the road, and the installation of signs, fences, protective structures, drainage systems, and landscaping. All this will be done with convenience, safety, and environmental friendliness in mind.

A new bus stop will also appear near the Santiago Martín Pavilion, which can be reached by a ramp from the lower street. This will make public transport more accessible to people. At the same time, the exit to the highway will be restored and the Las Chumberas pedestrian bridge will be improved to make it more convenient and safer for pedestrians to move around.

To ensure that the infrastructure is in good condition, road surface repairs will be carried out, the drainage system will be improved, and the road markings will be updated.

And finally, the landscaping of the area around the road will be taken care of, and damaged plants will be replanted so that the road blends harmoniously into the environment.
