In Santa Cruz, after a three-year restoration, the Masonic Temple with a museum of Freemasonry, a unique architectural monument with more than a century of history, will be opened.

In Santa Cruz, on San Lucas Street, the Masonic Temple will finally open! It has been under restoration for three years, and the city's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, said that this architectural gem will be open to visitors again in mid- or late October. There will also be a museum of Freemasonry.

The temple's restoration began in 2022. The money for this – over 3 million euros – was provided by the Spanish government, the government of the Canary Islands, and the city council (which also owns the building). The work is now almost complete, and a grand opening is being prepared. It is said that the temple will shine again as it once did, and everyone will be able to appreciate its beauty and historical value.

Mayor Bermúdez says that although there were some difficulties, "the work on the Masonic Temple is coming to an end, and this is very important for Santa Cruz, as we are preserving our historical heritage."

He also added that after the opening, the temple will host a congress of Masonic lodges. This is to emphasize the importance of this unique building (there is no other like it in Europe!). The mayor praised architect María Nieves Febles, the contractors, and the University of La Laguna Foundation for doing such a good job of restoring the temple.

The Masonic Temple was built in 1900. It was intended to be the headquarters of the Añaza Grand Lodge. It was designed by architect Manuel de Cámara, who was also a member of this lodge. Construction was completed in 1921, when the facade was finished. In 2001, the city council bought the building from the Spanish government, and in 2022, funds were found for its restoration.

This temple is a true gem that is over a hundred years old. It is decorated with Egyptian-style elements, which makes it special. Now it should become a tourist attraction of the city, a place where you can learn about history and culture.
