Santa Cruz de Tenerife plans to install the largest Christmas tree in Spain, measuring 50 meters, although other cities have already had taller structures.

This year, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital, decided to install the largest Christmas tree in Spain. Local authorities say it will reach 50 meters in height and will decorate the lake in the Plaza de España. The city will pay 100,000 euros to rent this beauty.

But there is one caveat: other cities have already had taller trees!

The city's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, says that Santa Cruz has long been famous for its Christmas celebrations in the Canary Islands. Therefore, they prepare in advance to ensure everything is on time. He also added that festive lighting not only makes the city more beautiful but also helps local businesses: shops, hotels, and, of course, tourists.

And the advisor on municipal issues, Carlos Tarife, even stated that this will be the main "feature" of the holidays, which will attract a lot of visitors and tourists. He even joked that the mayor of Vigo would come to see the best illumination in the country.

Every year, different cities in Spain compete to have the best Christmas tree. These are not just decorations, but real symbols that attract thousands of people and boost tourism and the economy. Vigo, Granada, and Cartes are the main players in this festive "race."

For example, in 2023, the small town of Cartes (Cantabria) became famous throughout the country by installing a 65-meter-high Christmas tree! It was considered one of the tallest in Europe.

Tens of thousands of people came to see this structure made of scaffolding, decorated with thousands of lights, last Christmas. For a town with only 6,000 inhabitants, it was a real tourist boom.

In 2024, Cartes decided to surprise everyone and installed a huge flying Santa Claus instead of a Christmas tree. But that giant tree is still remembered as one of the brightest Christmas wonders in Spain.

And in the south of Spain, in the Nevada Shopping mall near Granada, there is another impressive tree – 57 meters high. It has become a popular place for locals and tourists who come to shop and feel the Christmas spirit.

This tree stands out for its bright illumination and for being one of the first to compete with Vigo for the title of "main Christmas tree of Spain."

By the way, last year the Christmas tree in Vigo was 44 meters high. So, if they don't make it taller, the tree in Santa Cruz could indeed become the largest!
