In El Rosario, the local community has created the El Rosario Solar energy community, which generates, uses, and distributes "green" energy, providing residents with cheaper and more environmentally friendly electricity.

In El Rosario, "green" energy is no longer just talk, but a reality that people are building themselves. Here, they are creating El Rosario Solar, a local energy community (CEL). It was organized by residents, small companies, and the city council. Together, they will produce, use, and distribute "green" energy – cheaper and more fairly.

Due to the constant increase in electricity prices, CEL offers a different option: everything is nearby, everyone participates, and the benefit is shared among all. The first installation consists of 2 MW solar panels and 1 MW-hour batteries. They are located on the roofs of the La Campana industrial zone and provide electricity to everyone living within a 2-kilometer radius, which is a significant part of the city. How does it work? You don't need your own solar panels on the roof. Energy is produced jointly, and it simply flows to your home or office as if the panels were on your property.

"We want people to pay less for electricity, for new jobs to appear in the city, and for 'green' energy to help those who struggle to pay their utility bills," explains Fidel Vasquez, Deputy Mayor for Environmental Affairs. "We are a non-profit organization that wants to change the usual way of supplying energy."

El Rosario Solar shows that positive changes can start small and change our attitude towards nature. CEL brings together people, organizations, entrepreneurs, and authorities to create a more environmentally friendly and fair system where energy is used jointly, as envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals. Using it is simple: the community generates energy using solar panels, stores it in batteries, and distributes it among its members.

In addition to benefiting nature, this project helps the local economy, creates new "green" jobs, and strengthens the community: residents, entrepreneurs, and authorities work together towards a common goal.

The creation of CEL is actively supported by the state. The Government of the Canary Islands has allocated over 6 million euros from the NextGenerationEU funds (economic recovery plan). This makes the project more than 50% cheaper compared to a conventional solar panel installation at home. In addition, homeowners will receive a 50% discount on property tax for 10 years, and businesses – 25%. This makes participation in the project even more beneficial.

Almost any resident or entrepreneur within the project's coverage area can join. Even if you live in an apartment without a roof or your company doesn't have free space for panels, you can still benefit. Joint energy production and storage allows you to receive it without any construction work at your home. CEL handles registration, distribution, and consumption monitoring, as well as provides technical support.

El Rosario Solar is "light without profit": all decisions are made with the common good in mind. Responsible management, energy conservation education, and transparency are the main principles of the project. And a large solar power plant and battery system guarantee a stable and high-quality energy supply.

The community not only makes electricity cheaper and more environmentally friendly, but also gives everyone access to energy, empowers consumers, and brings the "green" transition closer to your home.

If you live within a 2 km radius of the station, you can learn more and register at www.elrosariosolar.com. CEL will help you understand the terms, tariffs, and available benefits.

El Rosario Solar invites everyone to become part of a cleaner, fairer, and more local energy future. Because when energy is shared, the whole city wins.
