The Canarian duo Fariña and Rodríguez will compete for the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica title at the Princess of Asturias Rally, trying to maintain their lead despite pressure from their Portuguese rival.

Canarian motorsport is preparing something interesting! This weekend, Giovanni Fariña and Alejandro Rodríguez will compete in the Princess of Asturias Rally for the title of Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica 2025 champions. For this duo from Tenerife, it is perhaps the most important race of their careers.

At first, they weren't very fast and finished fifth in one of the stages. But then Fariña and Rodríguez showed their class – winning the Rías Baixas rally in Galicia, and then also on the island of Madeira. They are currently leading with 64 points. Their main competitor, the Portuguese Ricardo Sousa, is behind with 43 points. He needs to win the rally (which is 25 points) and for Fariña and Rodríguez not to be in the top 8. But you can't relax. "I've almost won the championship twice in the Canary Islands, and then lost the victory. So I've learned not to rejoice in advance and to fight to the end," says Fariña.

The pilot from Tenerife does not hide what he feels before the Princess Rally. "I really want it to start, but I'm also worried," he admits. The pressure of being the favorites is taking its toll. "We're dealing with it better than I thought. But when I'm not busy, I start thinking about it and worrying a lot," says Fariña.

Canarian motorsport is always about passion and pride. And Giovanni feels it himself. For him, the opportunity to win the title is a "dream come true" that he has been pursuing since the beginning of his career.

He understands that in motorsport, one mistake can ruin everything. Therefore, he has a clear plan for the Princess Rally: "You need to drive fast, but carefully. We'll see where we are in the first sections, and then we'll decide whether to take risks or better to calmly reach the end."

Every rally is something new. Giovanni says that after Madeira, where he showed one of his best results, in Asturias "everything is completely different." "Here you need to be more careful, more attentive, but at the same time not lose speed," he explains. His ability to adapt to different conditions is another secret to his success in the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica 2025.

Everything will be decided on Saturday. It is the Princess of Asturias Rally that will show whether Giovanni Fariña and Alejandro Rodríguez can write their names in the history of the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica. Sousa needs to win and wait for the opponents to make a mistake. But Giovanni doesn't want to "get cocky" in advance.
