Arona SOS: Scooters are terrorizing pedestrian zones, authorities are inactive

In Arona, socialists are sounding the alarm about the authorities' inaction regarding the uncontrolled use of e-scooters in pedestrian zones, which leads to pedestrian injuries.

In Arona, the PSOE party is raising the alarm: the authorities are doing nothing to protect pedestrian areas from electric scooters and other vehicles. Although city rules prohibit it, they are everywhere!

The socialists say the situation has become unbearable, especially in tourist areas such as Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. People are afraid to walk because scooters are constantly zipping around. The PSOE states that there have recently been many cases of scooters hitting people, collisions, and falls, and even children have been injured.

The socialists from Arona accuse the local authorities of inaction. They recall that back in September 2024, they proposed that the city council regulate the use of electric scooters to protect people, but their proposal was rejected.

"Back then, representatives from PP, CC, and Vox did nothing but make excuses about complicated rules and promise to do something, but they did nothing," the socialists complain.

Micaela Brito, a council member from the socialists, emphasizes: "Pedestrian areas in Arona should be safe for everyone, but right now it's just a dangerous place where scooters drive as they please. And this is despite the fact that city rules prohibit it! This is a serious problem. There have already been accidents, run-overs, falls, and even children and people with disabilities have been injured."

Brito recalls that the authorities, led by Fátima Lemes, have been aware of this problem for over two years. And back in September 2024, the socialists offered a solution, but they were ignored, even though they warned that uncontrolled scooters would create major safety problems.
