In Spain, a scandal: the city's security social networks were outsourced.
In the Spanish city of Santa Cruz, a scandal has erupted over the transfer of social media page management related to security to a private company, sparking outrage from the opposition and trade unions.
Yesterday in Santa Cruz, Spain, a scandal erupted. Local authorities decided to outsource the management of social media pages that provide information on safety and emergencies. This outraged the opposition party, PSOE.
City council member Florentino Guzmán wrote on Twitter that the authorities had signed a €16,000 contract with a private company, even though a full-time employee who was fired had been doing a great job with it before. He believes that "outsourcing important government functions to private companies is not the best solution."
The CSIF police union also supported the police press secretary, who they say is being pressured due to the transfer of his duties to another person who was associated with the ruling party until 2023.
The city council explains that this is a temporary measure. They say it was necessary to urgently ensure the uninterrupted provision of information to the public about safety, emergencies, and the traffic situation, while there is no full-time employee. The pages of the police, civil defense, and coordination center (Cecopal) are important communication channels during crises, and they cannot be left unattended.
City Hall representatives assure that this is not a replacement for a full-time employee, but an additional service that will help deliver information to people faster and more efficiently. The contract will improve work and adapt it to modern platforms where people seek information from the authorities. Everything was done within the framework of the law on public procurement to ensure round-the-clock management of the pages of three different organizations. The procedure was transparent and does not replace any civil servant, but only complements his work, the City Hall assures.
