In La Laguna, relatives of the deceased are asked to renew lease agreements for niches in cemeteries.
The Mayor of La Laguna urges relatives of the deceased to renew the lease agreements for niches in cemeteries that have expired, in order to avoid further problems with burials.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, has appealed to people whose niche rental agreements in cemeteries have expired. He asks them to renew their contracts, as 5 years have passed since the burial.
There are currently over 500 such cases. The largest number is in the San Luis cemetery (438) in Los Baldíos. But there are also cases in other cemeteries: Punta del Hidalgo (41), Tejina (33), and Valle Guerra (32). There are fewer there, but it is still a lot for their size. In total, 544 niches require contract renewal.
Cristina Ledesma, who is responsible for cemeteries in La Laguna, explains that this is simply a reminder. If relatives have not seen the announcements on the graves or on the notice boards in the cemeteries, they will now know that they need to renew the contract and get everything in order.
When a person is buried, a rental agreement for the niche is made with the family for 5 years. This term can be extended for another 2 years if the remains are well preserved. Then, relatives can choose to buy the niche, move the remains to another niche, or send them to the crematorium (which is becoming increasingly popular).
If you have any questions, please contact the San Luis cemetery office from Tuesday to Thursday from 9:00 to 13:00, email cementerios@lalaguna.es, or call 922312401.
