The anniversary Pinolere Craft Fair kicks off in Tenerife with free buses
The Pinolere Crafts Fair will take place in the Canary Islands from September 4 to 7, celebrating its 40th anniversary and the transmission of traditions, with exhibitions, workshops, and tributes to artisans.
From tomorrow, Thursday, September 4th, until Sunday, September 7th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the Pinolere Craft Fair awaits you! This year we are celebrating our 40th anniversary!
180 artisans from all over the archipelago will come to showcase their work. The main theme is how to pass on traditional crafts from generation to generation. On Friday, September 5th, at 12:30 PM, young artisans from the Canary Islands will be honored.
The organizers, the cultural association Pinolere Proyecto Cultural, have arranged a free bus for your convenience. Buses will run every hour from Avenida Sor Soledad Cobian de La Orotava. And on Thursday, especially for tourists, buses will also depart from Avenida José María Campo Llanera, 2, in Puerto de la Cruz.
The fair will open at 11:30 AM with the presentation of a mural dedicated to the artisans of the Canary Islands. It was created by Jonathan Aircore, and will be presented by master craftsman Juan Ramirez Perez, who makes wonderful things from reeds and bulrushes – baskets, dishes, and chair seats. He is from Santa Lucia de Tirajana.
Immediately afterwards, at 12:00 PM, the official opening ceremony will take place with the participation of government representatives and the presentation of the Cho Feriantes 2025 awards in the Pinolere Ethnographic Park. These awards are given to those who help and support the cultural project in three categories: entrepreneurship, institutions, and individuals.
This year's awards will go to Gráficas Echeyde, Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, and Genoveva Hernandez, a resident of Pinolere who has been involved in the fair from the very beginning and has been preparing food for artisans, guests, and visitors for the past 20 years.
The Patrimonio Villa de La Orotava award will also be presented, which this year will recognize criales enramados and their founder, Pedro Villar Morales (posthumously). Criales enramados is a tradition of decorating candlesticks with flowers, grapes, ears of wheat, and colored ribbons, which originated in 1927 in the main parish of Our Lady of the Conception and is part of the city's festivities.
In addition, the founders of the fair and José Luis de León Torres, the author of the first official poster of the event, will be honored. And in the afternoon, the 39th issue of the journal El Pajar-Cuaderno de Etnografía Canaria, entitled Oralidad y Tradición Oral, will be presented. It will be presented by Chano Diaz Afonso, a member of the socio-educational project La furgoneta fantástica.
Throughout the weekend, in addition to the 180 craft stands, there will be many interesting things to see and do: exhibitions, book presentations, a national stick game meeting, children's workshops, tributes, folklore performances, tastings, didactic concerts, and delicious food. There will also be workshops for adults where they will learn how to make rosettes, weave mirrors from wheat straw, and make traditional Canarian ceramics.
