Residents are demanding that the streets in the center be restored to their former appearance after the dismantling of the bicycle lane.
The El Perenquén organization demands that the city authorities restore the previous appearance of the streets Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, and Villalba Hervás after the dismantling of the bicycle lane, as well as improve parking conditions and access to the city center.
The residents of the Urban Centro El Perenquén organization want the streets of Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, and Villalba Hervás to be restored to their former appearance, before the bike lane was installed. It was removed last week following a court decision. The court supported the residents and ruled that a bike lane in the city center was unnecessary.
El Perenquén, which succeeded in canceling the construction of the bike lane, is now asking the city authorities to discuss how to make these streets more convenient for living and working.
They propose that, in addition to the two traffic lanes, there should be a third lane for stops. It could be used for temporary parking to unload goods or simply to go to a store.
El Perenquén also demands the return of the taxi rank near Chicharro and Príncipe squares and to make it easier to access parking lots in the center. They say that the bike lane has eliminated parking spaces for people with disabilities, which are mandatory.
In addition, residents remind that the lease for the parking lot on Plaza de España expired in 2024. The city authorities extended it for one year, but this period is already expiring. Therefore, residents are asking the city authorities to take control of the parking lot and lower prices to make parking more accessible to everyone.
