In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the flea market near the Ministry of Finance will be covered with a large awning by 2027, vendors will be provided with new tents, and a Flea Market Council will be created to improve the market.
A shaded area will appear in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the parking lot near the Ministry of Finance, where the flea market operates every Sunday. According to First Deputy Mayor Carlos Tarife, they plan to install a large awning there to make it more comfortable for people to visit the market.
Tarife said that the project is almost ready for implementation, and he is personally monitoring this issue. The works are expected to be completed by the end of next year, and the new structure will be operational in early 2027. The awning will cover the entire parking lot, but parking spaces will remain.
In addition, 401 identical tents measuring 3x2 meters will be purchased for vendors at the flea market. The color of the tents will be chosen by the vendors themselves. More than 268,000 euros have been allocated for this. The tents are scheduled to be installed in February next year. This will make the market more modern, safe and convenient for both vendors and buyers.
The official also announced that a new regulation on the market will soon be published, where they plan to create a Flea Market Council. This will be a body where representatives of traders will be able to discuss improvements to the market with the authorities.
