Construction of a new pedestrian bridge with an elevator is underway in Tenerife at the Padre Anchieta interchange, which is scheduled to be operational by the start of the 2025-2026 academic year.

A new pedestrian bridge is being built in Tenerife! Last Monday night, an important part was installed – a module for the elevator on the Padre Anchieta roundabout.

This 15-meter, 13-ton structure will connect Trinidad Avenue with the pedestrian bridge.

Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo (local government), says that the bridge is becoming a reality "piece by piece." After the approaches are completed, the final touches will be made: a special non-slip coating will be applied, the old crossings will be removed, and the surrounding area will be improved.

According to the plan, the bridge will be fully operational by the start of the 2025-2026 academic year. It should become a model for safe and convenient pedestrian traffic in Tenerife.

Dámaso Arteaga, who is responsible for roads, is pleased with the progress, but admits that the work is complex, as all elements must be connected very precisely.

The Cabildo assures that the bridge will be as convenient as possible for everyone, even for people with disabilities.

The project was developed together with the organization Sinpromi, which specializes in accessibility. Therefore, there will be not only stairs, but also an elevator, ramps with a slight slope, rest areas and double handrails with lighting.

The bridge will rise 6 meters above the road so that pedestrians can cross safely without interfering with cars. This should improve the situation at one of the busiest junctions in Tenerife.
