The suspects in the kidnapping and murder of Alberto González, including the president of a football club, have been transferred from a prison in Tenerife to mainland Spain for security reasons, due to the brutality of the crime and the possibility of retaliation.

Two members of the Anaza gang, suspected of kidnapping and murdering Alberto Gonzalez, were transferred from a prison in Tenerife to mainland Spain. This happened on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. They are Aaron Vargas, a businessman and president of the Unión Deportiva Anaza football club, and Jonathan Martin, a nightclub security guard.

Earlier, on September 5, Moises Baute, a Tenerife kickboxer also suspected of murdering 34-year-old Alberto Gonzalez, was transferred to another prison. The judge in charge of the case ordered the transfer of all three suspects for security reasons, as the crime was very violent and shook the local community.

These three young men already had problems with the law, including thefts from drug dealers. Because of this, their stay in the Tenerife prison was difficult. Prison management stated that they could not guarantee their safety.

There were many people in the prison who had personal scores to settle with this gang. This created additional risks for Vargas, Baute (nicknamed "Eared") and Martin ("Fat"). Therefore, the judge decided to transfer them to different prisons on the mainland.

Vargas, Baute and Martin are accused of kidnapping, torturing and murdering Alberto Gonzalez, as well as causing serious injuries to his friend, known as Leon. Baute and Martin surrendered to the police themselves on July 30.

They arrived at the police station in a car with Alberto Gonzalez's body in the trunk and an injured Leon in the back seat. Vargas was arrested three days later, on August 1.

On August 2, they were brought to court, where they refused to testify. After that, they were sent to a prison in Tenerife.

According to the High Court of the Canary Islands, they are suspected of murder, grievous bodily harm, illegal imprisonment and cruel treatment.

The police are continuing their investigation and do not rule out further arrests. There is reason to believe that other people may have been involved in the kidnapping and murder of Gonzalez.

The judge is keeping the investigation secret, although 47 days have passed since the start of the investigation. All three suspects are being held in custody without bail.

According to the investigation, on July 28, the gang kidnapped Gonzalez and Leon in the parking lot of a shopping center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

They were held in various locations, including a farm in Guimar and a house in Santa Maria del Mar.

The kidnapping lasted three days. Baute and Martin surrendered to the police on July 30. On August 1, police searched the farm and house where the kidnapped men were being held and arrested Vargas. The next day, the court ordered the arrest of all three.

During the detention of the kidnapped men, they were probably beaten with hammers and tied with cable ties. There is information that some of the attackers filmed the beatings on their phones. Police searched for these videos but did not find them.
