La Orotava invites you to take "slow" walks along new routes
La Orotava has released the second collection of free tourist guides "La Orotava SlowTours" to introduce tourists to the unusual places and history of the city.
The city council of La Orotava has released the second collection of self-guided walking routes called La Orotava SlowTours. These are guidebooks that will help you discover the unusual places and natural corners of our city. You will see how La Orotava lives, get acquainted with its culture, history, and traditions.
According to the city's mayor, Francisco Linares, the first collection of such routes was very popular. The four volumes released in 2024 were particularly well-received by tourists and residents of the Canary Islands. Therefore, it was decided to create four more, so that people could get to know our city even better.
La Orotava is a "slow" city, which is part of the international Cittaslow network. This means that we care about sustainable development and quality of life. We want tourists not just to rush past our attractions, but to have time to enjoy them and feel the atmosphere of the city.
The first guidebooks covered the Pinolere-Mamio, Colombo-Aguamansa, Camino de Chasna, and Benijos areas. And in the new collection, you will find routes through La Florida-Pino Alto, Hacienda Perdida-Barroso, San Antonio-La Quinta, and La Perdoma. This project is supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism, as well as the Government of the Canary Islands.
Delia Escobar, the councillor for culture, noted that they want to show tourists not only famous places, but also remote corners, such as small villages in the mountains. These guidebooks are part of the rural development plan.
In each guidebook, you will find detailed information about the area, interesting places such as old estates, churches, shops, and roads. And also stories and legends associated with these places.
The new guidebooks, like the previous ones, are available in Spanish and English. They can be downloaded for free from the city council website or obtained in paper form at the tourist office.
