Los Realejos will update its emergency action plan, taking into account the risk of volcanic eruption, with the support of the University of La Laguna.
In the city of Los Realejos, the emergency action plan will be updated. Local authorities have signed an agreement with the University of La Laguna to revise and improve this important document.
The first meeting recently took place to discuss the details. It was attended by the mayor, police representatives, and scientists from the university who will be updating the plan.
The mayor of Los Realejos noted that updating the plan is necessary because situations vary, and it is important to always have up-to-date information and clear instructions. It is important that the new plan takes into account the risk of a volcanic eruption. The team working on the plan already has experience in mapping volcanic hazards.
The new plan includes risk assessment, identification of necessary resources, and will consist of four stages. Meetings are also planned with residents of different districts of the city to take into account their opinions and needs.
During the development of the plan, many important factors will be analyzed: terrain, population, water availability, assembly points in case of danger, evacuation plans from buildings, etc.
Representatives of various city services, utilities, radio, as well as volunteer firefighters and rescuers will be involved in the work on the plan.
After development, the new plan must be approved by the city council, and then by the government of the Canary Islands.
It is worth noting that the university department, which helps with the updating of the plan, is engaged in uniting the efforts of scientists, authorities, businesses, and ordinary citizens to solve problems related to emergency situations.
