The Ibero-American Craft Museum in Tenerife is launching a new educational program for schools for 2025-2026 to introduce children to the cultural heritage of the region through guided tours, workshops, and field trips.

The Ibero-American Crafts Museum in Tenerife (MAIT), which is under the local authorities, is launching a new educational program for schools for 2025-2026. The goal is to introduce children to the cultural heritage of the region.

The program is designed for students of different ages. It includes museum tours, interesting workshops, and even off-site activities in schools. Children will learn about the traditional crafts of the Canary Islands, their value, and their connection with the crafts of Latin America.

Efraín Medina, responsible for education, emphasized that the local authorities support education because it is "a tool for the development of society, the dissemination of knowledge, and the unification of people."

He believes that "craft is not only our history, but also opportunities for the future, related to environmental friendliness, new ideas, and work."

The MAIT Museum is an ideal place for learning, because "a museum should inspire, teach, and share knowledge."

Thanks to this program, according to him, "we combine culture, traditions, and education."

This year, new educational material has appeared – "MAIT Crafts". These are manuals about two traditional crafts: pottery in Tenerife and percussion musical instruments.

Also, for secondary school students (ESO), it is proposed to study palm leaf weaving and playing percussion instruments.

Another novelty is a workshop on the production of natural paints, where children will be able to make ink or watercolor from cochineal (scale insect).

The program has two directions: training in the museum (La Orotava) with excursions for different age groups (you can choose a specific topic or craft) and workshops on making toys, clay products, jewelry, dolls, natural paints, traditional ceramics or masks; as well as training in schools, where master craftsmen will conduct demonstrations and workshops.

For high school students and vocational school students, theoretical and practical classes with artisans are provided (small groups of up to 25 people). The topics are palm leaf weaving and percussion musical instruments.

Information about the program will be sent to all schools in Tenerife. Applications will be accepted from September 15, 2025, until places are filled.
