In La Orotava, preparations were discussed for the 32nd Murgas Contest of Northern Tenerife, which the city will host in February 2026, with the participation of representatives from city councils and murga groups.

In the town of La Orotava, the Comunorte commission gathered to discuss how best to prepare for the 32nd Murgas Contest of Northern Tenerife. The reason is that La Orotava will host this competition in February 2026.

The meeting was attended by representatives of city councils responsible for celebrations from various cities: Icod de los Vinos, Garachico, Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz, and, of course, La Orotava. There were also representatives of well-known murga groups, such as Las Deslenguadas, Los Virgueritos, and others.

The organization of the children's murga contest was discussed separately. The same representatives of city councils and young artists from murgas Minivirgues, Los Ferrusquentitos, and others took part.

The children's contest is scheduled for February 1. It is expected that at least six children's groups from the north of the island will take the stage.

The 32nd Northern Murgas Contest itself will last from February 2 to 7. Up to 12 murgas will participate. Depending on the number of applicants, the competition days will last two to three days during the week. The final will take place on Saturday, February 7.

Performances will be held in the Plaza del V Centenario. Murgas wishing to participate must apply through the city council's online service, in the celebrations department. Preliminary registration will last from November 13 to 28, but these dates will be specified.

The basic rules remain unchanged: the group must have between 20 and 82 participants. During the performance, the murga must present two songs in the stage and one in the final.

Winners will be chosen in the categories "Interpretation" and "Presentation". There will also be a special Criticón award from journalists and students covering the competition.

Alexis Pacheco, head of Comunorte and representative of the La Orotava City Council, is very pleased that murgas and representatives of city councils are actively involved in the organization. He emphasized that working together will help make this important carnival event in the north of the island the best.
