Dangerous beaches of Tenerife: where to be especially careful
On Tenerife, some beaches, including Benijo, La Nea, Radazul, La Arena, and Los Patos, are dangerous due to strong currents, large waves, steep slopes, and the risk of landslides.
Tenerife is not only about the wonderful beaches of the Atlantic, but also about places where you need to be very careful in the water. Underwater currents, unexpected waves, and rocks falling from the cliffs make some beaches truly dangerous.
Benijo is the beauty of wild nature, but also a constant risk. Benijo Beach in Anaga is one of the most popular places for photos. Black volcanic sand and incredible nature attract tourists. But there are no lifeguards here and very strong currents, so swimming here is dangerous.
La Nea and Radazul are often closed due to large waves. On the coast of El Rosario, La Nea and Radazul beaches are often closed for swimming when the sea is rough. During a storm, red flags are always raised here, because safety comes first.
La Arena is a dangerous slope in the south. La Arena beach in Puerto de Santiago has a "Blue Flag" and dark sand. But due to the steep slope, the waves here strongly hit the shore, and you can suddenly be carried out to sea. This can surprise even experienced swimmers.
Los Patos is closed due to landslides. Los Patos beach in La Orotava is closed to visitors because rocks can fall from the cliffs. Although locals love it very much, it is better not to go there for safety reasons.
