Toni Alvarez and Estela Guerra won the Subida Los Pasos night vertical race in Agulo, Spain, and the island of La Gomera will host the Skyrunning World Championships for national teams in 2026.
Toni Alvarez and Estela Guerra became the first winners on Colombian soil!
It all began with a fire in honor of Saint Mark, the patron saint of Agulo, to the sounds of local chakaras and drums. Yurena Cordoves and Enedina Modesta Perez opened the XIV Gomera Paradise, namely the MKV Subida Los Pasos night race.
Toni Alvarez (17:28) and Estela Guerra (19:40) were the fastest to reach the Mirador de Abrante viewpoint.
The night vertical race Subida Los Pasos started in the picturesque town of Agulo, Spain. Almost 2 kilometers of track with a height difference of 638 meters were tested by more than 50 participants.
Toni Alvarez from the Hilera team set the pace and finished first with a result of 17:28. Jose Airam Felipe took second place (19:26), and Anderson Dominguez took third place (20:20). In the women's race, Estela Guerra showed an impressive result of 19:40, entering the top three in the overall standings. She was followed by Maria Dorta (24:56) and Rita Morales (25:39).
But that's not all! The island of La Gomera has won the right to host the Skyrunning World Championships among national teams in 2026. This year the competition will be held in the town of Canfranc in the Pyrenees. And in a year, from September 18 to 20, La Gomera will host teams from all over the world. The official website of the event states: "From sea to sky, this incredible island will be the site of the ultimate skyrunning battle!"
The agreement was signed in the municipality of Cabildo de La Gomera by the head of Casimiro Curbelo and the head of the International Skyrunning Federation, Marino Giacometti. The event was also attended by the Vice President of Cabildo de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes, the Sports Counselor, Guillermo Medina, and the General Director of Gomesport Events, Jose Antonio Rodriguez, the company that organizes Gomera Paradise.
