Adeje welcomes the Virgin of the Incarnation: a large-scale celebration after the pandemic
Adeje celebrates the fourth Lustral Visit of the Virgin of the Incarnation, with processions, concerts and a maritime procession, after the break caused by the pandemic.
The town of Adeje is once again hosting a special event – the fourth Lustral Visit of the Virgin of the Incarnation. It all began in May with a prayer service, and this Sunday the Lustral Fire will be lit and the flag raised near the Las Torres Spring. Before that, torches will be brought from all corners of Adeje, which, along with the flags, will be consecrated during a mass in the Church of Saint Ursula. These flags will then decorate each parish.
The last time this holiday was celebrated loudly in the streets was in 2015, as the pandemic interfered in 2020. Now all the parishes, districts, and villages of Adeje are preparing to welcome the honored guest – the Virgin of the Incarnation, who will process through the city throughout September.
Among the most interesting events:
- Gala Concert of Praise – will take place on September 5 at the Adeje Auditorium. The Lustral Court of the Virgin will be presented there, and writer Elsa López, a laureate of prestigious literary awards, will give a speech.
- Night Prayer Service – September 6. At 18:00, after the service in the Church of Saint Ursula, a procession will begin to the Church of San Sebastián in La Enramada. The path of the Virgin will be illuminated by torches. And the Toke Latino band will perform in San Sebastián Square.
The visit is organized by the Association of Friends of Adeje Traditions and various parishes with the support of the city council. Dozens of groups are also involved, such as "Adejerki with the Virgin", "Carriers", the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament, a musical group, catechization groups, and volunteer firefighters.
All of them, along with hundreds of residents, will participate in the procession of the Virgin through the parishes and villages of Adeje. It will all begin on September 7 in the parish of La Milagrosa and will pass through La Hoya, Tijoco Bajo, La Concepción, and Tijoco Alto. In a week, the Virgin will visit the parish of the Resurrection of Our Lord, namely Armenime, El Puertito, Callao Salvaje, Playa Paraíso, Ricasa, Marazul, Los Menores, and Las Rosas. On September 21, the Virgin will move to the parish of San José and will visit Las Nieves, El Galeón, Taucho, La Quinta, La Viña, La Postura, and Los Olivos during the week. On the 28th, she will continue her journey to the parish of the Virgin del Campo, visiting Fañabé, La Caleta, and Puerto Colón.
And on Saturday, October 4, at 18:00, a special event will take place – the Virgin will board a ship and set off on a sea procession. From Puerto Colón, she will sail to La Enramada, where the arrival of the Virgin on the coast of Adeje many years ago will be recreated, with a bright light show. After disembarking, there will be a procession with torches to the El Humilladero cave. And on Sunday, October 5, the image will return to the Church of Saint Ursula, ascending the road of the Virgin to the Cross del Llano Square.
