Puerto de la Cruz is investing 420 million euros in the modernization of the water supply and drainage system, including the construction of a new desalination plant and infrastructure upgrades.

Big changes are planned in the city of Puerto de la Cruz! Local authorities have agreed on an important contract that should improve the water supply and drainage system. They say it's the largest investment in the city's history – as much as 420 million euros!

The point is to find a company that will take over the management of the city's entire "water system" for 40 years. This company must invest about 31 million euros in modernization. Plus, the government of the Canary Islands and the local council of Tenerife will add more than 6 million each.

To ensure everything is fair, information about the upcoming tender to select this company will be published in the official gazette and on the websites of the city council and public procurement.

There are many important works planned. For example, they want to repair all pumping stations and treatment facilities, and even move some further away from the coast. Special attention will be paid to the Punta Brava area, so that there are no more sewage problems there, like there used to be on Jardin beach.

Another important thing is that a new desalination plant will be built in Punta Brava. It will be able to purify 2,800 cubic meters of water per day. In addition, they promise to install modern meters so that people can transmit readings remotely, and to make the water supply system more efficient, especially for irrigation.

They are giving 20 months for everything.

"We want to return the "blue flags" to our beaches, so that people have clean water at home, and so that the city can provide itself with water," says local official Pedro Antonio Campos.
