In La Laguna, the construction of a new multi-purpose pavilion with a capacity of 10,000 spectators is planned, which has received support at the state level and is intended to become a venue for sports competitions and other mass events.
La Laguna plans to build a new large pavilion, and this idea has already received support at the state level. According to the mayor of the city, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) fully supports the construction of this multifunctional complex in the Las Mantecas area.
Recently in Madrid, Gutiérrez met with the head of the CSD, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, and the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, to present the project of a new pavilion that can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators. This was reported by the city council.
According to Gutiérrez, the meeting was very successful. He thanked the head of the CSD for his support and emphasized that La Laguna needs such a modern sports facility.
The sports advisor, Badel Albelo, was also present at the meeting. They discussed the technical characteristics of the pavilion, which should meet the needs of local sports organizations participating in national and international competitions.
Mayor Gutiérrez added that the CSD will carefully consider the project to find ways to support it. This will allow La Laguna to host major international sports tournaments in the future.
In addition, the mayor met with the president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Elisa Aguilar, to enlist the support of this organization. He noted that the local basketball team "La Laguna-Tenerife" plays at a high level, so the city needs a modern sports infrastructure that meets the needs of the team and other sports clubs.
The city authorities of La Laguna have already started changing the general development plan so that a new sports complex can be built on a 42,000 square meter plot in Las Mantecas, near the Faculty of Fine Arts.
According to the changes to the plan, this territory, which the University of La Laguna refused, will be designated as a sports zone. 25% of the area will be allocated for indoor sports facilities. This means that the building area will be more than 10,500 square meters, which is twice the area of the Santiago Martín Pavilion.
While the process of amending the general plan is underway, which may take about two years, the city council plans to announce an international competition for the best pavilion project.
The mayor emphasized that they want to create not just a large and functional pavilion, but also a building with a unique design.
According to the city council's idea, the new pavilion should be universal and suitable not only for sports competitions, but also for congresses, fairs, concerts and other mass events. This will relieve the city center from a large number of people during such events.
An important part of the project is its environmental friendliness. In addition to the pavilion, an urban sports park of more than 30,000 square meters will be created on the site in Las Mantecas. Thus, the city will have not only a new sports infrastructure, but also a large green area.
