The newspaper DIARIO DE AVISOS will receive the Gánigo 2025 award for its long-standing contribution to the economy, society, and culture of the southern Canary Islands, and other businesses and organizations will also be recognized for their contribution to the development of the region.

In Tenerife, in the southern region, the Center for Initiatives and Tourism (CIT Sur) has decided to award the DIARIO DE AVISOS newspaper the Gánigo 2025 award in the "Communications" category. The Board of Directors unanimously supported this decision. The newspaper is said to deserve the award for its many years of work and positive impact on the economy, society and culture of the southern part of the Canary Islands.

The award ceremony will take place on October 24 at a gala concert in Los Cristianos, in the Infanta Leonor Auditorium. The best in tourism, agriculture, trade, crafts, restaurants, event organization, entertainment and culture, as well as contributions to sustainable development, will also be celebrated there.

Along with the DIARIO DE AVISOS newspaper, the award will be received by: the Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel, the Quesería El Isorano cheese factory, the Oliver boutique, the Restaurante Donaire GF Victoria restaurant, the Escuela de Vela Los Cristianos sailing school and the Miraverde residential complex. In addition, the honorary award will be presented to businessman Pedro Luis Cobiella, and the special award to the Aqualand Costa Adeje water park.

Local municipalities will also celebrate their heroes. They will present a symbol of pre-Hispanic pottery: to the Don Bosco Association (Adeje), the village of Icor (Arico), the Bat4all barco accesible Tenerife project (Arona), the Ceo Guajara organization (Fasnia), the Escuela de Juego del Palo school (Granadilla de Abona), the Sámara municipal group (Guía de Isora), the Ferretería Tamaide store (San Miguel de Abona), the Arguayo Pottery Center (Santiago del Teide) and the Fuente Alta Trail organization (Vilaflor de Chasna).

The President of CIT Sur, Rafael Dolado, said that the gánigos award ceremony is an important event that brings together prominent politicians, entrepreneurs and public figures of the region. He also noted that in 2026 CIT Sur will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its foundation, which began with a "meeting of friends" in 1966 in Granadilla de Abona, who wanted to help the development of the southern part of the island.

Currently, CIT carries out many different activities, including the educational program for schools "Friendliness, tourism, your future". The organization also honors tourists who have been choosing the south of Tenerife for recreation for years, supports local holidays and celebrates World Tourism Day at the airport.
