The TF-5 highway in Tenerife will be expanded with the addition of a lane in the Santa Cruz direction between Guamasas and Tenerife-Norte Airport, at a cost of 66.4 million euros.

On Tenerife, they will finally start expanding the TF-5 highway! The government of the Canary Islands has approved a project that will add another lane in the direction of Santa Cruz – on the section between Guamas and Tenerife-North Airport.

Rosa Dávila, the island's president, says this is a big step forward. After all, improving this road is one of the most important issues for local residents. According to her, the new lane will allow people to get to their destination faster, and the road will become safer.

Dávila also emphasized that this project was made possible thanks to the joint work of the government and local authorities. Together, they were able to move forward on an important matter that had been stalled for years.

In total, it is planned to spend 66.4 million euros on the project. The works are expected to last 35 months. It is important that the project has already received positive assessments regarding its impact on the environment, safety and health.

What exactly is planned:

  • Expand the road by adding a third lane.
  • Change the drainage system.
  • Improve lighting and install new safety barriers.
  • Update road signs and markings.

Traffic will not be stopped during the works, they promise.

The works will be carried out on a 3.6-kilometer section – from the Guamas junction to the San Lázaro junction. This is one of the busiest and most dangerous sections of the TF-5 highway.

Now that the project has been approved, the government of the Canary Islands plans to announce a tender for the works as soon as possible.
