The island government council has revised the funding for the construction of the new municipal cultural center in Candelaria, distributing payments from the Cabildo of Tenerife until 2029 to ensure the project's financial stability.
The island government council has revised the funding for the construction of a new municipal cultural center in Candelaria. This project is part of the cultural infrastructure development plan for 2016-2029. According to Vice President Lope Afonso, the total investment from the island corporation will amount to €7,457,033.
Afonso explained that the changes are necessary to ensure the project's financial stability and to align with the actual construction pace. It is also important to adhere to the investment limits in the cultural sector for the coming years. "The investment is not decreasing, just the schedule is changing," he added.
The total cost of the project is €9,321,292. Of this amount, €7,457,033 (80%) is provided by the Cabildo of Tenerife.
The Councillor for Culture, Museums, and Sports, José Carlos Acha, emphasized that the budget will not be reduced. Instead, the payments from the Cabildo will be spread over three additional years, i.e., until 2029. "This will allow the municipality of Candelaria to implement the project more flexibly and within the budgetary stability that the Cabildo must ensure," he noted.
The investment will be distributed as follows: €577,172 in 2027, €2,255,353 in 2028, and €2,255,363 in 2029.
Afonso and Acha emphasized that the future municipal cultural center in Candelaria is one of the most important cultural projects in southern Tenerife. "These changes ensure that the Cabildo of Tenerife continues to support the development of cultural infrastructure on the island, even in the context of limited public funds. We strive to make culture accessible to all municipalities on the island," they stated.
The municipal cultural center in Candelaria will have an area of 4,561.12 square meters. It will be built on the site of the old bus station on the Los Menceyes boulevard in Villa Mariana.
