The Bafta Shorts 2025 program will launch on the Spanish island of El Hierro, presenting a selection of award-winning British short films as part of the IX Insularia-Islas del Mundo en Red Festival.
The Bafta Shorts 2025 program will start on Sunday on the Spanish island of El Hierro. This is a selection of cool British short films that were nominated for or received awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta).
The screening is organized together with the British Council Spain. It will be a cool conclusion to the IX Insularia-Islas del Mundo en Red Festival, which takes place at the Asabanos Cultural Center in Valverde.
Bafta Shorts 2025 is a collection of short films of various genres: both feature films and cartoons. All of them were nominated for or won the Bafta 2025 award. These works show stories from the lives of British people, demonstrate skill in cinema and represent talented filmmakers from Britain.
The program includes the following films: Mog's Christmas, Rock, paper, scissors, The flowers stand silently, witnessing, Stomach bug, Milk and Wander to wonder. These seven works – from comedies to dramas and poetic cartoons – will show you modern Britain from different sides.
"This collaboration is an important step for Insularia at the international level," says festival director Juanma Villar. "This is an opportunity to build bridges between islands and cultures." He also emphasized that it is important that such a small island as El Hierro is the first in Spain to host such a prestigious exhibition.
"The program includes short films that reflect the breadth, sensitivity and high level of British cinema. These are stories about the diversity of society, as well as how cinema can evoke emotions and unite people from all over the world," he added.
Cristina Word from Arts de British Council Spain will attend the event, who will present the program and participate in the closing ceremony.
Insularia-Islas del Mundo en Red uses cinema to unite island territories from all over the world. Each festival shows films that tell about identity, memory and the beauty of nature.
A special guest of the festival will be the Spanish actress Candela Peña, who returns to El Hierro as a member of the jury. She has received three Goya Awards and is known for her career in Spanish cinema. Candela Peña has a close connection with the island, where she starred in the popular TV series "Hierro". Her return "symbolizes an emotional and cultural connection with the island, which became the filming location of one of the most famous series of recent years," Insularia noted.
At the closing gala, the jury will present awards, which will be the final chord of the Insularia festival on the island of El Hierro.
The festival is supported by Promotur-Turismo de Islas Canarias, Cabildo de El Hierro and the municipalities where it takes place.
