In the Canary Islands, the exhibition "No Applause, No Stage" by the young artist Héctor Mara has opened, exploring the foundations of painting through experiments with materials and forms.
In the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, an exhibition by the artist Héctor Mar, entitled "No Applause, No Scenes," opened on Friday. It can be viewed in the cultural space of the CajaCanarias Foundation.
It features about fifty works, mostly oil paintings. Among them is the one for which the artist received the Manolo Millares Prize from CajaCanarias in 2024.
The exhibition will run until the end of the month. It can be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, as well as on Saturday mornings.
In addition to Héctor Mar himself, Manuel Hernández, who heads the cultural department of the CajaCanarias Foundation, attended the opening. He noted that Héctor Mar, who was born in 1997, is possibly the youngest artist whose solo exhibition has ever been held at this venue.
The artist said that the idea behind the exhibition is quite simple: "For me, painting is a way of thinking and finding meaning in things. And it doesn't necessarily have to be related to recognition or fame."
The exhibition "No Applause, No Scenes" features works in which the artist constantly explores the fundamentals of painting: plane, texture, composition, structure. But he does not perceive them as something immutable, but constantly experiments, as if each painting is an attempt to negotiate between ideas, materials, and forms.
Héctor Mar shows how painting can be a living space for reflection and change. His works are a combination of different layers, textures, and simple forms that are repeated and changed. He insists that materials are an important part of the experience. His painting is a combination of different techniques, layers, and silence.
In addition to paintings, the exhibition also features video art, drawings, and sketches that show the artist's creative process.
With this exhibition, Héctor Mar invites us to stop and look at the world from a different perspective. His painting is a place where you can linger for a long time, without rushing anywhere.
