In Tenerife, a court has referred the case of the alleged murder of a Belgian couple to a jury, involving three detained Belgian citizens.

Investigating Court No. 1 in Arona, on the island of Tenerife, has referred the case of the alleged murder of a Belgian couple to a jury court. They lived in the municipality of Adeje until the spring of 2024. The investigation began in 2024.

Three Belgian citizens are involved in the case and are currently in custody.

In June of last year, the court ruled that the case would be heard by a jury court. This means that additional evidence will be presented, including re-examination of witnesses. The final autopsy report on the deceased woman's body (her husband has not yet been found) and a technical report on the location of the defendants' mobile phones on the days when the crime allegedly occurred are also pending.

The couple disappeared in mid-April 2024. The woman was 66 years old and her husband was 71. On April 27 of the same year, the woman's body was found in the water near the municipality of Arico in Tenerife. She had a plastic bag over her head, and both legs and one arm had been severed. The husband has not yet been found.

Two suspects, who are believed to have lived near the couple in Adeje, were arrested in Belgium on an international warrant issued by the Arona court. The third was arrested later in Tenerife.

All three are currently in custody in Spain.
