Tensamba Festival Returns to Canary Islands With Tribute to Iconic Bossa Nova Album
The Tensamba Festival returns to the Canary Islands this Saturday at the Casino de La Laguna, featuring a contemporary interpretation of the iconic bossa nova album Vinicius de Moraes en La Fusa by Carme Canela and Jurandir Dã Silva.
The Tensamba Festival returns to the Canary Islands this weekend, once again proving the universal appeal of bossa nova. This year’s program celebrates the legacy of Brazilian popular music by offering a contemporary take on a landmark 1970 recording.
This Saturday at 8:30 p.m., the Casino de La Laguna will host a performance by vocalist Carme Canela and instrumentalist Jurandir Dã Silva. The concert centers on the iconic album Vinicius de Moraes en La Fusa. Originally recorded in Argentina with Maria Creuza and Toquinho, the album was instrumental in bringing bossa nova to a global audience. Rather than a note-for-note recreation, Canela and Dã Silva offer a personal interpretation of classics like Garota de Ipanema, Samba em Prelúdio, Eu Sei que Vou te Amar, and Lamento no Morro.
Events like this highlight the enduring value of classic repertoire in today’s music scene. The original album, born from a unique collaboration between Brazilian artists and their South American neighbors, set a new standard for intimacy and harmonic sophistication. More than 50 years later, it remains a vital subject for study and inspiration.
