Tenerife Women Seek First Home Win Against Badalona Amid Injury Setbacks
CD Tenerife's women's team seeks their first home win of the season against Badalona, aiming to overcome recent struggles and boost morale while supporting breast cancer awareness with a charitable event.
Costa Adeje Tenerife Egatesa hopes to start the season fresh by settling their last challenge. Today at 4:00 PM, the CD Tenerife women's team is aiming for their first win of the season at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. This would mark their first victory on their home ground.
They'll be up against Badalona, who are currently eighth in the league with nine points. That's three places and three points behind Tenerife's team. Badalona is coming off a win at home against Madrid CFF, which broke a streak of two losses against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.
Badalona, coached by Ana Junyent, matched Tenerife's strong start to the season. They conceded their first goal in the fifth match, while Costa Adeje conceded in the sixth. They were the last two teams in the Liga F Moeve to let in a goal. However, Badalona has struggled to score, with only two goals in seven matches, a record only matched by last-place Levante.
Besides focusing on their opponent, Coach Maestre's team is looking to improve their home performance. A good draw against Madrid was preceded by a dull 0-0 draw against Espanyol and a disappointing loss to Eibar last weekend. Costa Adeje had 26 shots on goal and controlled the game, but couldn't score. Late in the game, substitutions and nerves led to disorganization, and Eibar scored on a counterattack to win 0-1.
The Tenerife players need to bounce back from this loss and overcome the anxiety they're feeling at home. Maestre said in the pre-match press conference that his team will "never" lose its ambition and that the team's morale is still high.
Maestre is happy that Sandra Castelló is back from injury and has been training well. However, Yerliane Moreno, despite a similar situation, is not on the list of 21 players. The bad news is that Fatou Dembele is out with a muscle injury in her right leg. The defender from Mali has started all seven matches so far, only being substituted once in the 4-0 win against Sevilla. She was taken off with ten minutes left, already on a yellow card, with the game well in hand.
Cinta, who replaced Fatou in the Sevilla match, is likely to start in her place. Otherwise, no major changes are expected to the starting lineup that Maestre has used consistently. Jenni López from Lanzarote is another new addition to the squad.
The event, coinciding with World Breast Cancer Day, will have a charitable aspect. The club will be selling special t-shirts (identical to those worn by the players) for 15 euros, with all proceeds going to the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Additionally, fans will receive red bracelets, and a cancer patient will perform the ceremonial kickoff.
