Tenerife will support pilot Lesmes in the "Dakar-2026" to fight against breast cancer
The Cabildo of Tenerife will support Rafael Lesmes in the Dakar Rally 2026, where his team "Dakar por la Vida" will raise awareness about the early diagnosis of breast cancer.
The Cabildo of Tenerife, with the help of the company Ideco, will support the pilot Rafael Lesmes to participate in the Dakar 2026 rally in his new car – the "Pink Fox". Rafael, who has already won the Dakar Classic twice in a truck, and his team "Dakar por la Vida" will once again use the prestige of the world's most difficult rally to draw attention to an important topic: early diagnosis of breast cancer in women and men.
This was announced yesterday at a press conference in the Santiago Martín pavilion. Representatives of the Cabildo of Tenerife were present, including the Councilor for Sports, Yolanda Moliné, and the Councilor for Social Affairs, Águeda Fumero, as well as the president of the Canarian Foundation "Carrera por la Vida", Brigitte Gypen, and the pilot Rafael Lesmes himself. In addition, representatives of the Adeje City Council and the automobile federations of the Canary Islands and Tenerife attended the event.
Yolanda Moliné emphasized that the Cabildo of Tenerife is very happy to support this project again, which combines sports and charity. She added that they could not miss the opportunity to help raise awareness about breast cancer and support an initiative that promotes such important values as perseverance and dedication.
Águeda Fumero called the project exciting and noted that they are honored to support this important cause. According to her, this is not just a sporting event, but also an opportunity to draw attention to the problem of early cancer diagnosis, which can save lives.
Rafael Lesmes emphasized the similarity between the challenges faced by Dakar participants and the fight against the disease.
The "Dakar por la Vida" team, which will once again present the "Tenerife Awakens Emotion" brand at the Dakar 2026 rally, will soon undergo its first serious test at the Classics Africa rally, which will take place from tomorrow until September 17 in Morocco. A route of about 1000 kilometers with dunes similar to those in Saudi Arabia in January will help the team test and adjust the car.
Having replaced last year's truck with a smaller and faster vehicle, the pilot and his team will strive not only to perform well on the podium, but also to be among the fastest in the world's most difficult rally, spreading an important message about the fight against breast cancer in women and men.
