Tenerife Urbano Brings Youth Sports Festival to Candelaria This Saturday
The eighth edition of Tenerife Urbano arrives in Candelaria this Saturday, offering young people free access to urban sports like skateboarding, parkour, and BMX as part of a wider initiative to promote active lifestyles across the island.
Tenerife’s push to bring youth activities to local communities continues this weekend as the eighth edition of Tenerife Urbano arrives in Candelaria. Taking place this Saturday, September 5th, the event aims to make modern sports and physical culture a bigger part of life for islanders under thirty.
Following successful stops in Santa Cruz and Arona, this initiative encourages young people to get active in non-traditional settings. From 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Rosendo Alonso Tapia Pavilion and the surrounding area, attendees can try out a variety of disciplines, including skateboarding, parkour, calisthenics, BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball, and urban dance.
The event is free and inclusive, though some activities—such as the 3x3 basketball tournament—require advance registration through the Cabildo’s sports department website. Yolanda Moliné, the island’s Minister of Sports, noted that the program is a collaborative effort involving the University of La Laguna, designed to help young people build healthy, long-term habits. The Candelaria Department of Youth added that the event is a vital way to provide activities that genuinely appeal to local youth.
Tenerife Urbano will continue its tour later this month with two more stops: September 12th at the Plaza de La Cruz Santa in Los Realejos, and September 25th at the University of La Laguna. Through this program, the local government hopes to revitalize public spaces and provide better institutional support for urban sports that have historically lacked formal recognition.
