Tenerife Unveils Mobile Employment Unit for Remote Areas
Tenerife has launched a new mobile unit to deliver job training and employment advice directly to residents in rural and isolated areas, aiming to overcome geographical barriers and boost job opportunities.
Yesterday, the Tenerife Island Council, the Red Cross, and the Island Foundation for Training, Employment, and Business Development introduced a new mobile unit. This vehicle will travel to rural areas and isolated neighborhoods, offering job training and advice to people looking for work or wanting to improve their skills. It aims to help them overcome geographical and transport challenges.
Efraín Medina, the Island Councillor for Employment, praised the project's innovative approach. He said it would "bring employment information and valuable resources closer to the people who need them most."
Heliodoro González, Provincial President of the Red Cross, explained that the main goal is inclusion. He said, "We've turned an ambulance into a mobile hub that will bring advice and training to the most remote neighborhoods, breaking down barriers and creating real job opportunities."
This initiative, called 'In line with employment: betting on an itinerary on wheels,' is part of a larger project named 'Neighborhoods for Employment: Stronger Together.' The Tenerife Council leads this project, which is carried out by organisations like the Red Cross. With a total budget of nearly four million euros (20,000 euros of which went to this mobile unit), the program aims to help vulnerable people find jobs.
The mobile unit will have a driver and one or two employment advisors. Outside, a tent will be set up with six laptops, allowing six to twelve people to receive training. Inside, the unit will be equipped for the advisor, with an extra laptop for tasks like writing CVs. This service aims to make essential resources more accessible to residents in outlying areas who face transport challenges.
This mobile service was created to address a real problem: many people in Tenerife's rural and outlying neighborhoods struggle with transport and accessing services. The Island Government states it's a transformative resource that helps people connect with new job opportunities.
