Tenerife Unveils 'Impulso Creativo' Art Festival
Tenerife's new 'Impulso Creativo' festival, organized by La Laguna and running March 12-22, aims to transform art creation and foster collaboration through workshops, performances, and discussions.
Tenerife's cultural scene is getting ready for a new event that aims to change how art is created. La Laguna's Department of Culture has announced the 'Impulso Creativo' (Creative Impulse) festival, designed to help artists develop projects and connect professionals, amateurs, and the general public. This festival, running from March 12 to 22, highlights the importance of creative processes and teamwork within the island's arts community.
Organized by La Laguna's Autonomous Organization for Musical Activities (OAAM), the festival will take place at several venues. These include Teatro Leal, the old Convent of Santo Domingo, and the Abubukaka academy in La Laguna; Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and Casa de la Juventud in La Orotava. The official launch included Adrián del Castillo, La Laguna's Culture Councilor and OAAM president, and Bibiana Monje, an actress, playwright, and the festival's director. Also present were José Darío Afonso, La Orotava's Youth Councilor, and Sulay Curbelo, artistic coordinator for Espacio La Granja, representing other partner organizations.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, March 12, at 8:00 PM at Teatro Leal with 'Hamlet-a.' Directed by Bibiana Monje, this unique take on Shakespeare's classic tells the story from the viewpoint of women over fifty. This same play will also close the festival on March 22 at 7:00 PM, also at Teatro Leal. Another highlight is 'El show de los impulsos creativos' (The Creative Impulses Show). This experimental, improvised performance is like a 'late night' show, exploring how art is made in real-time through live performance, filming, interviews, and discussion.
The festival also offers training through two main parts: 'Creative Impulse and Thought Conferences' will feature workshops, masterclasses, and discussions on playwriting, performing arts, film, theater, and music. 'Voices with Impulse' will showcase national artists working in their own creative spaces. After the festival, recordings of the sessions and performances will be available online in the 'Digital Stage' section of the Impulso Creativo website, creating an accessible archive.
