Santa Cruz de Tenerife has unveiled a 33-million-euro, 20-year modernization plan to renovate the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, featuring a capacity increase to 25,127 seats and comprehensive infrastructure upgrades by 2040.
The Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set for a major transformation. Plans unveiled this Tuesday detail a comprehensive 20-year modernization project, with completion expected by 2040.
The Master Plan, estimated to cost up to 33 million euros, aims to bring the stadium up to modern standards for safety, comfort, and functionality. To ensure the club can continue its activities, the work will be carried out in four five-year stages. A key highlight for fans is the expansion of the stadium’s capacity to 25,127 seats.
Beyond increasing capacity, the project includes a complete overhaul of the building’s infrastructure. Plans include replacing plumbing and electrical systems, repairing the canopy, upgrading fire safety and lightning protection, and reinforcing the concrete structure. The stadium will also receive a new look with a modern mesh facade.
The interior will see significant upgrades as well. The locker rooms will be remodeled to include a gym, physiotherapy facilities, and wet areas. The press room will be updated, new team benches will be installed, and the playing field will be better protected. For spectators, the experience will be improved with new seating and large-format video scoreboards.
This project is more than just a renovation of a century-old building; it is a commitment to revitalizing the surrounding area in Santa Cruz. Once finished, the Heliodoro will be a modern, sustainable, and efficient venue, well-positioned to host top-tier sporting events.
