Tenerife: Two Jailed Over Business Theft Spree
Two men have been jailed in Arona, Tenerife, following their arrest for a series of thefts targeting local businesses, including restaurant break-ins, under the "Safe Commerce Plan."
A judge has ordered two men to be held in jail after they were arrested by police in Arona, Tenerife. They are linked to a series of thefts from local businesses. This temporary jail order is a common step in Spain to prevent further crimes or stop suspects from fleeing, showing the seriousness of the accusations.
Police say their investigation began after a break-in on December 30 at a restaurant in Los Cristianos. The thieves reportedly got in by forcing open a window and stole 1,050 euros in cash. Later, officers connected one of the arrested men to a second, more serious robbery. At a different restaurant, the thief climbed a three-meter wall to get inside and took 544 euros.
Police records suggest this particular suspect has been active in the area for some time. He is also believed to be responsible for several incidents at a hotel in November 2025, where he reportedly entered the hotel at night multiple times, stealing bottles of alcohol and a mobile phone. On top of this, he faces charges for seven smaller thefts. These are different from the more serious robberies because they don't involve violence, threats, or breaking into a place. These smaller thefts happened in shops and supermarkets in Arona, where he typically stole alcohol and clothes, supposedly to sell them illegally.
The police operation that led to the arrest of both men is part of the "Safe Commerce Plan." This local program aims to better protect businesses, stop crimes from happening, and quickly respond to anything that threatens the local economy.
