Tenerife's tram service has fully returned to normal following the official signing of an agreement that ends a long-running labor dispute at Metrotenerife.

Tenerife's tram service is now fully back to normal. This follows the official signing of an agreement that ends a long-running labor dispute at Metrotenerife, as reported on Thursday. The agreement, signed by the company's management and the strike committee (made up of the UGT, USO, and CCOO unions), aims to bring back stable operations and peace of mind for the workers.

The agreement was signed after workers overwhelmingly supported a preliminary deal on January 28, with 83.5% voting in favor at a meeting. This consensus, reached the week before, marked a turning point in negotiations that had been stuck for over a year with no real progress.

The breakthrough in the situation is partly due to a change in negotiation tactics after the trade union elections in May 2025. During these elections, the Workers' Trade Union (USO) gained two representatives and took on the role of the committee's secretary. Since then, discussions became more focused and decisive, leading to an agreement in about six months that addressed the workers' main demands.

Ending the strike means not only that protests will stop, but also that employees will regain job stability, and tram users are guaranteed a continuous, high-quality service. USO highlighted the importance of strong, professional talks. They also committed to ensuring the agreement is fully followed and to actively representing Metrotenerife's workers to protect their rights.
