Santiago del Teide and Guía de Isora are commemorating the 116th anniversary of the Chinyero volcanic eruption with a series of events from November 13th to 21st, featuring religious services, cultural activities, educational talks, and artistic performances.

From November 13th to 21st, Santiago del Teide and Guía de Isora are celebrating a significant volcanic event in Tenerife's recent past: the Chinyero eruption.

This volcano, located between the Teno massif and the Teide-Pico Viejo complex, last erupted 116 years ago. To mark this anniversary, both towns have organized a variety of events, including religious services, cultural activities, educational talks, and artistic performances.

Under the theme "Chinyero – 116," Santiago del Teide's events begin on Sunday, November 16th, at 9:30 AM with a procession starting from the Santa Ana church in Tamaimo. The route will include stops at the Virgen del Pilar hermitage in Las Manchas and the Calvario in Las Manchas, where priests Julián Azcárate and Víctor Fernández will lead a mass.

On November 18th and 19th, at 7:00 PM, the Tamaimo Social Center will host talks by the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan). These sessions will focus on volcanic risk and prevention for the public.

The program in Santiago del Teide concludes on November 21st at 8:00 PM at the Chinyero Visitor Center with a theatrical-musical performance titled "Mayelín entre humos y secretos" (Mayelín Amidst Smoke and Secrets). This show will be presented by the Santiago del Teide Dance Workshops, with live music from the local Music School.

The nearby municipality of Guía de Isora is also honoring Chinyero with a program that blends local traditions, culture, and science.

Guía de Isora's events start tomorrow with a performance by the group Abubukaka and will feature musical and cultural offerings until Saturday, November 15th. Saturday will include the traditional procession of the Virgen de la Luz of Guía, accompanied by music and fireworks.

On Sunday, November 16th, following a morning Eucharist, the Exobandas 2025 festival will take place. This event will showcase musical groups from across the island and include a special concert with the Virgen de la Luz Band and singer Goyo Tavío.

On November 17th and 18th, Involcan will present a talk titled "Canarias, a volcanic window in the Atlantic." On Tuesday, November 18th, at 7:00 PM, a commemorative procession will be held.

The Chinyero volcano eruption, while not causing fatalities or significant damage to populated areas, left a lasting impact on the island's geological and social history.

This year's events aim to preserve historical memory, promote scientific education, and strengthen community bonds through faith, culture, and music.
