Tenerife will host a two-day Camino de Santiago pilgrimage on July 18–19, 2026, featuring a scenic route across the island to promote religious heritage and active tourism.

Pilgrimage routes in the Canary Islands are growing in popularity, with official plans now set for the 2026 Tenerife Camino de Santiago. Supported by local councils in the north and west of the island, the initiative aims to promote active tourism while celebrating Tenerife’s historical and religious heritage. This event is designed to boost mountain sports and strengthen the island's connection to the Jacobean tradition, which has become an increasingly popular alternative to standard hiking.

The two-day journey takes place on July 18 and 19. Participants must register in advance through the El Cardón company website for a fee of 20 euros, which covers all logistics and technical support.

The walk begins on Saturday, July 18, at 8:00 a.m. from the Parish of Santiago Apóstol in Los Realejos. The route takes hikers through scenic areas, including the La Corona viewpoint, Los Campeches, El Lagar, Vista de San Felipe, Cueva de la Hiedra, and the volcanic landscapes of Garachico. The day concludes at 7:30 p.m. in San José de Los Llanos, El Tanque.

To help participants rest, organizers have provided access to the San José de Los Llanos municipal sports center, which offers basic facilities and a designated camping area. The walk resumes early on Sunday, July 19, from the town square, aiming to reach the Ermita del Apóstol Santiago in Valle de Arriba by 10:30 a.m. The event will finish with a transfer to the Mother Church of Santiago del Teide for a pilgrims' mass.

To reduce traffic and make travel easier, the council is providing a free bus service to take participants to the starting point on Saturday and return them home after the event on Sunday. For questions regarding the physical requirements of the route or necessary equipment, please contact the City Council at 922-86-31-27, extension 3000.
