Tenerife to Host Inaugural Royal Elite Cup Featuring Top Global Football Academies

Tenerife is becoming a key destination for youth football, marking a major step in bringing elite sporting events beyond the mainland. The island will host the inaugural Royal Elite Cup, an initiative by the Pedro Rodríguez Foundation designed to foster technical exchange between some of the world’s most prestigious football academies.

The tournament will run from September 4 to 6 at the Javier Pérez Sports City in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, featuring 16 under-11 teams. The lineup highlights the project's ambition, including international giants like Chelsea, PSV Eindhoven, SS Lazio, Dinamo Zagreb, and Sporting CP. They will be joined by top Spanish clubs, such as FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Club, Villarreal, Real Betis, RCD Espanyol, and Girona FC. Local representation will include CD Tenerife, UD Las Palmas, and two teams formed specifically for the event.

The tournament consists of 43 matches, and the organizers have opted for a hybrid viewing experience. Admission to the sports complex is free, and Televisión Canaria will broadcast the final stages—the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final—across its digital platforms, including Canarias Play, its website, and YouTube. The coverage will feature commentary by Berto Mata, reporting by Bea García, and expert analysis from the Sports and Management team.

This event is more than just a youth competition; it serves as a launchpad for future projects. On the opening day, organizers will announce details for a "Legends Game" scheduled for 2027 at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. This exhibition match will feature football icons connected to the careers of Pedro Rodríguez and David Silva, highlighting the Foundation’s long-term goal of connecting emerging talent with the stars who reached the pinnacle of world football in 2010.
