Tenerife to Host Inaugural ‘Renacer’ Integrative Oncology Event

'Renacer Tenerife' is a new event launching on the island to provide support beyond traditional medical care. From September 25th to 27th, the island's Trade Fair Center will host this pioneering meeting dedicated to integrative oncology—an approach that combines medical treatment with a patient’s physical and emotional well-being.

The event comes at a critical time. With projections suggesting Spain will see 302,000 new cancer diagnoses by 2026—including about 12,000 cases annually in the Canary Islands—the fair aims to be a hub for reliable information. It is designed not only for patients but also for the family members and caregivers who are often overlooked by the standard healthcare system.

Attendance is free, and the event is supported by the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Institute for Cancer Research (ICIC), and several patient organizations, including Pequeño Valiente, ÁMATE, and the Alejandro Da Silva Canary Foundation. The program features a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together major hospitals—such as HUC, HUNSC, San Juan de Dios, and San Roque—alongside groups specializing in emotional support.

In addition to expert presentations, the event will focus on health education and prevention. Highlights include a blood donation drive with the Canary Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH) and a campaign by the Cabildo to raise awareness about the risks of sun exposure.

Project director Yaiza Díaz says the initiative was born from her own personal experience. Her goal is to provide practical tools to help patients navigate the uncertainty of a diagnosis. By complementing public health services, the organizers hope to create a lasting space that prioritizes quality of life and offers a more human, coordinated response to cancer.
