Tenerife will host its first-ever HYROX fitness event at the Recinto Ferial from September 4 to 6, 2026, as part of a strategic effort to boost international sports tourism.

Tenerife’s addition to the global HYROX calendar marks a significant step in the island’s strategy to diversify its tourism. By hosting the event at the Trade Fair Center (Recinto Ferial) from September 4 to 6, 2026, Tenerife is proving its logistical strength and cementing sports tourism as a key economic driver. This shift helps attract high-spending visitors year-round, moving beyond traditional seasonal demand.

This will be the first time the Canary Islands host the event, following successful editions in Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia. Organizers expect 20,000 visitors in total. Since its launch in Germany in 2017, HYROX has become a global phenomenon by combining eight running segments with eight strength exercises. Its popularity stems from its inclusive format, which allows elite athletes to compete alongside amateurs of all ages, including a strong showing from competitors over 60.

The Tenerife Island Council views the event as a vital tool for international branding. With 10,000 athletes expected—90% of whom are traveling from outside the island, including 60% from abroad—the impact goes well beyond the competition itself. The island’s air connectivity and hotel infrastructure were key reasons for the organizers' choice, and registration is already nearing capacity.

HYROX holds over 150 events annually in a standardized indoor format and has become a major success in the Iberian market, drawing more than 100,000 participants per season. For local officials, the real value lies in how long visitors stay; the nature of the event encourages athletes and their companions to turn a weekend competition into a longer vacation. By securing this event, Tenerife has firmly established itself on the international fitness circuit, a sector that requires the specialized infrastructure and services the island is now well-equipped to provide.
