The Tenerife Island Council will close a section of the TF-13 road overnight on May 4 to stabilize a slope, temporarily isolating the residents of Punta del Hidalgo to facilitate essential safety repairs.

The vulnerability of infrastructure in northern Tenerife has been highlighted once again, with the Tenerife Island Council announcing essential repair work on the TF-13 road.

The road will be completely closed between kilometers 16 and 16.200 from 11:00 p.m. on May 4 to 5:00 a.m. on May 5. This closure is necessary to stabilize a slope following a recent rockfall. Because the TF-13 is the only road access to Punta del Hidalgo, the work will temporarily isolate the area’s 2,700 residents.

The project, awarded to Tacande Geotecnia S.L. for 838,125 euros, is a complex task due to the difficult terrain. Workers will secure two large, unstable rock blocks and install seven dynamic barriers designed to withstand significant impacts. Because the work requires heavy machinery, the council confirmed that no alternative routes can be provided.

Dámaso Arteaga, the Minister of Roads, explained that the work is being carried out at night to minimize disruption to residents, though he stressed that the repairs are essential for safety. The coastal terrain of La Laguna, known for its cliffs and volcanic soil, requires ongoing maintenance to prevent erosion. Authorities are urging residents to plan their travel in advance and to exercise caution when driving through the area during the days surrounding the repairs.
