Tenerife to Attempt 1.1km Nougat World Record
Tenerife is set to attempt a Guinness World Record this Saturday, December 13, by creating a 1,100-meter-long nougat in Puerto de Santiago, aiming to surpass the current world record.
Tenerife is getting ready to try and break a Guinness World Record this Saturday, December 13. They plan to make the world's longest nougat, which will be 1,100 meters long and weigh 3,366 kilograms. This giant sweet will be made with local ingredients in Puerto de Santiago's Public Square.
The public is welcome to watch the event all day. The goal is to create the longest nougat ever made using ingredients sourced entirely from the local area.
Adults who want to help can sign up through an online form or by calling the Santiago del Teide City Council at 922 86 31 27 (extensions 402, 403, and 405).
This isn't their first attempt; in 2024, they made a nougat 110 meters long and weighing 295 kilograms. This year, they aim to beat the current world record of 1,004 meters, held by Sicily. Chef Pablo Pastor said the idea to make it ten times longer came to him while measuring last year's nougat.
To reach this impressive length, they've designed a 47-meter table system that winds in a zigzag. This setup was planned for over a year to ensure the nougat remains one continuous piece.
The recipe uses almonds, honey from Santiago del Teide, and other local ingredients. They will use a huge amount of supplies: 1,200 kilograms of gofio, 400 kilograms of chocolate, 300 kilograms of honey, 300 kilograms of sugar, 150 kilograms of dried banana, 100 kilograms of chopped almonds, and 35 kilograms of local almonds. Plus, they'll add 1,600 liters of syrup. To mix everything, they'll use four large kneaders and special molds made just for this event.
A Guinness World Records official will be there to oversee the measurement of the nougat every 25 meters. A City Council employee will then perform the final check.
The project was officially announced last week at the Real Casa de Correos in Madrid. Mayor Emilio Navarro praised the teamwork between local organizations, chefs, and producers.
Just like in 2024, the giant nougat will be given to charities, nursing homes, and groups helping people in need. The main part of the event is set for Saturday at 3:30 PM.
