Tenerife tenor Celso Albelo will perform alongside numerous artists, orchestras, and choirs at the 25th Grand New Year's Zarzuela Charity Gala this Tuesday at Madrid's National Music Auditorium, raising funds for Cáritas.

Tenerife tenor Celso Albelo will perform this Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Madrid's National Music Auditorium. He's taking part in the Grand New Year's Zarzuela Charity Gala, which raises money for Cáritas.

This year marks the 25th edition of the event, presented by the Sinfolírica Foundation. It will feature the Orfeón Donostiarra, led by Sainz Alfaro, and the UCAM Symphony Orchestra (Catholic University of Murcia), conducted by Borja Quintas. Also performing are the Ballet Estampas de Zarzuela, directed by Sofía Martín; the Rondalla Lírica de Madrid, led by Pepe Juárez; and the Cultural Association ¡Chotis siempre Madrid!

Albelo will share the stage with many other artists. These include sopranos Carmen Solís and Graciela Moncloa; mezzo-soprano Cristina Faus; tenors Javier Camarena, Moisés Marín, and Antonio Vázquez; comic tenor Juanma Cifuentes; baritones Jesús Rodríguez and Quique Bustos; basses Rubén Amoretti and Simón Orfila; and guitarist Rafael Andújar.

They will perform popular selections from various zarzuela works, including El Bateo, La Bruja, Marina, El huésped del sevillano, Luisa Fernanda, El último romántico, La Dolores, El sobre verde, La alegría de la huerta, Los emigrantes, La del Soto del Parral, Doña Francisquita, and La rosa del azafrán.

Manuel Bretón, president of Cáritas Española, expressed his thanks: “On behalf of the entire Cáritas family, I want to deeply thank everyone who makes this amazing zarzuela gala happen. It plays a vital role in allowing us to continue our daily work helping those most in need, both here in Spain and abroad.”

After the gala, Celso Albelo will begin rehearsals for Jules Massenet's lyrical drama, Werther. ABAO Bilbao Ópera will open its year with this production at the Euskalduna Palace on January 17, 20, 23, and 26. Albelo will also perform this role in April at the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb.

In December, the Canary Islands tenor performed another of his famous roles: the Duke of Mantua from Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto. He sang this part at the Teatro Campoamor in performances by Ópera de Oviedo on December 12, 14, 17, and 20. Next summer, he will return to Madrid's Teatro Real to perform as Manrico in another Verdi opera, Il trovatore, on July 4, 15, and 20.
